River Safaris & Gulf Charters was incorporated in 1982 but was in operation for about 4 years prior to that date. The river tour business was, in the beginning, simply set up to take people out to a restaurant called the Crow's Nest, located on an island at the mouth of the Homosassa River on the Gulf of Mexico. Even though the the restaurant has been closed for many years the river tour business has thrived on the Homosassa River. River Safaris went on to develop historically narrated tours, manatee swim and viewing trips, airboat rides and we have performed many marriages on our tour boats. We have also accompanied many families and friends to spread ashes and commemorate the lives of those who have passed. River Safaris and Gulf Charters, Inc. is location at 10823 W. Yulee Drive in Old Homosassa Florida on a waterway that leads to the main Homosassa River passing Monkey Island. The location is tropical with plenty of room for parking. The rental boats, pontoon boats and airboats are on site as well the Glass Garage, Pepper Creek Pottery, Safaris Cafe and River Safaris Gift Shop with local artwork for sale. Sal, Mo, and Nella, our american alligators also have a special home here. We let them stay in a chain link fenced pen where they are safe. The alligators were about 3 feet long when they first arrived from a farm to live with us. You'll see that they have grown a bit in the past 6 years. The alligator exhibit is free of charge. As business owner, I am a 5th generation Florida native whose family were pioneers in the state of Florida and I am a certified Citrus County Eco-Heritage guide. We are pleased to be able to offer this type of recreation to the public as it is the same activities we have been enjoying all our lives. Being on the Homosassa River is a REAL Florida experience. We care about this environment and hope that by taking people to see and enjoy it they will also care for it and protect it as we do. Protection is vital to all the animals, plants and people who live and work here. Please contact us about planning your next adventure on the Homosassa River in Old Homosassa Florida! |
